This document is a webcam help document for mac and windows users. If they have issues turning on the webcam, this document should be able to resolve most of their issues.

◾️Ensure the Camera is Not Physically Blocked

• Check for Obstructions
  • Make sure there is no physical cover or sticker over the camera lens. Some laptops have built-in privacy shutters that you may need to slide open.

◾️Check Camera Indicator Light

• Most built-in webcams have an indicator light that turns on when the camera is active. If the light isn’t on when you try to use the camera, it may not be getting power or being recognized by the system.

◾️Verify the Camera is Connected (External Webcams)

• Check USB Connection
  • If you are using an external USB webcam, make sure it is properly plugged into a functioning USB port. Try unplugging it and then plugging it back in.
• Try a Different Port
  • Plug the webcam into a different USB port on your computer to rule out a faulty port.

◾️Ensure the Camera is Enabled

• For External Webcams:
  • Make sure the camera is turned on if it has a physical power button.
• For Built-in Cameras:
  • Some laptops have a function key (Fn) that enables or disables the webcam. Look for a key with a camera icon and press it along with the Fn key.
  • Some laptops may also have a small toggle on the side which enables or disables the camera

◾️Check App-Specific Settings

• Check Camera Permissions: Some applications require you to grant permission to use the camera. Make sure the app you're using has the necessary permissions to access your camera.

In most cases, a pop-up will appear, prompting you to allow camera access. This prompt typically appears near the URL bar. However, if the prompt does not appear, you can manually change the camera permissions through your browser's settings:

• Chrome / Firefox: "Settings" > "Privacy and Security" > "Camera"
• Microsoft Edge: "Settings" > "Cookies and Site Permissions" > "Camera"
• Safari: "Settings" > "Websites" > "Camera"

◾️Check System-Specific Settings

• Ensure that your device's system settings allow applications to access the camera. These settings vary depending on whether you're using a Mac or Windows device:
